Toby Keith Launches Show Dog Records

Posted by admin On August - 31 - 2005

"The only thing we take seriously is the music," Keith says. "That’s
our motto." Keith is the first signing to the label, which resulted
from his desire to exercise complete creative control over his career.
His next album is Show Dog’s first release.

Universal Music Group will handle distribution for the new label.

"I’ve worked with UMG Distribution my whole career and they’ve always
done a great job," says Keith, who’s sold 25 million albums to date.
"The DreamWorks promotion staff really worked hard over the last five
years and I appreciate all their efforts. Country radio, too, has been
very good to me and I look forward to working with them as we get Show
Dog rolling."

Keith, who’s single "As Good As I Once Was" has been #1 on the country
singles chart for six weeks and who absolutely dominated the country
album charts this summer with two albums in the top 10, now joins his
third label, following stints on Mercury and most recently DreamWorks.

The ‘Show Dog’ umbrella will house Show Dog Records as well as Big
Machine Records, headed by former Dreamworks VP of Promotion, Scott
Borchetta.  While A&R duties will fall to Keith and Borchetta
separately, all other staff will be shared by the two labels.  Keith
and Borchetta have assembled an all-star staff of industry veterans
which will begin promoting Keith’s new single, "Big Blue Note,"
immediately.

During a radio convention in Nashville earlier this year, Keith
revealed he was planning a label with the cajones to put music before
business. Now he’s putting his money and career where his mouth is.
How’s that for Tijuana Brass?

Van Zant Re-Energizes Southern Rock

Posted by admin On August - 31 - 2005

The Dallas Morning News’ Mario Tarradell noted in a recent article that
"the success of the Van Zant duo’s song ["Help Somebody"] and its
accompanying album, Get Right With the Man, is the most recent proof
that Southern rock, once an integral part of the American rock scene,
is now more popular and accepted in country music circles."
Blurring the lines between country and rock is nothing new, its just
the sound that the brothers have had in them since the
beginning.   In a previous interview, Johnny has said, "We’re
not trying to jump on any kind of bandwagon or anything.  We’re
just being ourselves with this CD.  If Skynyrd came out today it
would be right there on country radio."
